Don Austin has always been one of my favorite hardcore bands from Northeast Ohio. They are from Akron and play criminally underrated fast hardcore. I miss their live shows to this day. Rust Belt Hammer is even named after Don Austin. They had an ep called Rust Belt Blues and a song named “I Fix Everything With a Hammer”. I combined the names and that is how this blog was born.

REMEMBERING ASPAHLT FROM CLEVELAND

I regret not including Asphalt in Destroy Cleveland. They were a band that had one full length release on Dwid’s Dark Empire, and then faded into obscurity. This track kind of reminds me of a sludgier version of Nick Cave or The Birthday Party. Members of Asphalt included Chris Smith (Integrity, Keelhaul) Dave Araca (Integrity, False Hope) and Sam Lopiccolo (False Hope, Knifedance).
