You probably have never heard of Fort Recovery, Ohio. It’s where two battles took place during the American Indian Wars; St. Clair’s Defeat in 1791 and the Attack on Fort Recovery in 1794. Fort Recovery also happens to be home to Rick Derringer.
Derringer was the guitarist for the McCoys, 60s garage rockers known for the familiar song known as “Hang on Sloopy.” This song has probably been planted into your subconscious if you grew up in Ohio, and is the official rock song for the state.
If you grew up in the 70s, perhaps you lit up some giant doobies to Derringer’s boisterous “Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo.” The song is certainly smoking hot!
Here is a fact that will blow your lid; Rick is the man behind the iconic “Real American” Hulk Hogan theme song.
He has played with everyone from Steely Dan to Weird Al to Edgar Winters.
This guitar slinger even ripped the solo on the Alice Cooper song “Under My Wheels”
Rick Derringer is probably not a name that will pop into your head immediately when you think of 70s guitar heroes but he is definitely a living legend.
