Want to read and enjoy a nudie mag with art spreads and literature? Momma Tried are keeping print media alive in New Orleans and beyond. Read more below in their own words and order a copy.
Momma Tried is a print-only non-heteronormative nudie mag. Each issue contains work by emerging artists and writers from around the globe, subversive humor, and unique collaborations collaged together into a limited edition pop art object.
Real Bodies: Momma Tried’s original nude editorials feature collaborating artists and personal friends instead of professional models. We feature relatable people – a variety of ethnicities, genders, sizes, and orientations, whose bodies have not been digitally retouched.
Ad-Free: Although MT is ad-free, we do have fake ads. “Disruptive Content,” as we call it, serves a similar visual role as real advertising while adding another layer of content to the magazine. Disruptive Content presents itself both as a parody of the language and aesthetics of advertising and as an homage to popular culture. Occasionally these fake ads are in reference to artistic projects that may only exist as advertised.
Limited Edition: The second issue of Momma Tried includes the work of more than 60 contributors and collaborators. Published in a limited edition of 1000, the second issue will be 160 pages long, printed in full color, and perfect bound.
