HORRIBLE FEST 2014 REVIEW AND PICTURES

Horrible Fest 2014 came and went in a furious blur. Drugs were consumed, fireworks were set off, sweaty dudes moshed, and bands raged with possessed punk rock passion. Iceage headlined the first night with a disappointing and monotonous set. It’s okay to have an off night, fellas. I ain’t mad at ya! The locals more than made up for it. Fat Vegan did an old school Cleveland style set where it’s miraculous that nobody lost an eye while Cruelster and Queens of Hell shredded Now That’s Class to pieces.

Night two was equally stellar with locals Hep*Z, Wetbrain, and Obnox absolutely dismantling the crushed competition. Cleveland was in full effect, hot damn! It’s a real shame I left before the Secret Prostitutes from Houston. They are a fun and unique KBD styled band. Pleasure Leftists took Homostupids slot which was perfectly fine with me. Singer Hailey does ghostly goth vocals reminiscent of a witchy Grace Slick that carry the bands dreary, proficiently played post-punk sound into an English field of dreams and despair. Unholy Two also murdered my ear drums with droning, hateful, noise-punk. Go get their new album on Austin’s 12xu!

Night three is what the punk rock public had been waiting for. Bad Noids set the night off with a top notch set on the main stage right before Lumpy and the Dumpers slimed up the bar stage while the crowd lost all inhibition and went absolutely apeshit. Bodies were forgotten as minds were lost. Destruction Unit played a set that would make Hawkwind smile while Hank Wood and the Hammerheads pleased the children with an organ driven, garagey punk assault that represented NYC to the fullest. I can’t wait for next year. I really hope Fuck You Pay Me, Inmates, Gauze (ha) and Cider play. This fest proves why Cleveland is an innovative leader in DIY punk. Thank you to Paul and Russ, the ringleaders of this musical circus.
